Can’t be greedy… You gotta take some, and leave someJames Brown
The work of Navid Nuur (IR, 1976) is often ephemeral or process based. In his drawings, paintings, videos, sculptures and interventions within existing architecture, he often brings unnoticed immaterial phenomena – such as the effect of light, the flow of energy or the experience of space – to the surface. The artwork is activated through movement and the visitor’s subjective experience. They enter an internalised world that gains an almost meta- physical charge.
The installation Tentacle Thought No. 23 (PUSH IT) is part of an ongoing series in which Nuur uses fluorescent lamps to observe the many phenomena of light. The fluorescent tubes come from the artist’s studio. Nuur transports them to Het HEM, arranging them in such a way that they transcend their functional application, as an energetic entity coming to the fore and can be interpreted as an encouragement.
Edson: ‘Push it could be our motto for this entire show. We’re all about doing things we haven’t done before and stepping out of our comfort zone.’
