This season's public program is over
Our event spaces are available for rent.
Art is our first language. Throughout the year, Het HEM presents a range of temporary art programmes as well as more permanent art installations.
There is always music to listen to at Het HEM, with programmes focused on experimental ways to create, present and experience music in the building through listening sessions, live shows, and musical artis-in-residence initiatives.
We are closed at the moment. When we are open again you are welcome for a drink and a bite, wine and dine at our restaurant. With good wether we suggest you settle down on our sunny terrace on the Costa del Zaano.
Het HEM loves books. During your visit, come lose yourself in the library's rich selection or discover new favourites in the SANZ Shop.
The building's industrial design and our experimental art programme bring ambience and meaning to every event.
Situated in a former munitions factory, Het HEM is a new home for contemporary culture.
Het HEM produces physical – and from 2023 – also digital programmes that cross all possible disciplines; visual arts, music, dance, performance, theatre, philosophy, literature. Since 2019 Het HEM is known for its Chapter programming where we collaborate with today’s visionaries who share their ideas through large-scale art programmes. But it’s also known for the layered music programming, the parties, the art installations by RAAAF and Levi van Veluw, the bookshop, the restaurants and the great terrace on the North Sea Canal.
Due to renovations (2023-24), Het HEM is shifting its focus to online this year and we’re therefore developing The Couch; a digital platform where editorial content, online art projects and a web shop are presented. On here, Het HEM tells the larger, overarching story and shows the connections between the broad programme and the various components and communities that Het HEM houses. Ultimately, we will move towards a more hybrid form – presenting both physical and digital programmes for various audiences. To make this next step Het HEM is looking for a Communication & Marketing Manager for 38 hours a week.
