The origins of hip hop are a bit of a mystery, even to those who practice components of the culture daily.
It also goes without saying that the worldwide influence of the culture on the world is unparalleled as America’s largest export in the past 40 plus years.
This lecture will unpack not only the origins of the culture, but the components and present day impact of those cultural components as well. To quote Rich Medina, “Rap music is the waiting room inside the mansion called hip hop”. On July 20, we look forward to Rich explaining this point in full at HET HEM for our very first lecture on the topic.
Rich Medina is a well-known DJ who, in the thirty-plus years since he spun his first record, has turned his love for music into a celebrated career as a platinum-selling record producer, recording artist, poet and journalist. A passionate educator and advocate, Rich Medina has been a lecturer at Cornell University, The Barnes Foundation and Lincoln University.
The lecture is followed up by music in the Dynamic Range Music Bar from 21:00 onwards
Tickets for the lecture are €10,-, including access to Chapter 1NE on Saturday, July 20. The exhibition Chapter 1NE is opened from noon - midnight.
