Chapter 2WO Public Programme
Shock Forest Group (2019) is an international research team consisting of architects, cartographers, linguists, coders, urban planners, sound makers, biologists, designers and engineers. It is an experiment in open research, where the research categories surface as the research develops. It is also an experiment in alternative education, a classroom without a teacher, where learning emerges as a product of polyphony.

Nicolás Jaar has invited the core members of Bladerunner – an improvising collective with origins in New York City - to join him for a four-day residency in the Dynamic Range Music Bar. Featuring Dave Harrington on bass/synth, Will Epstein on saxophone, Tlacael Esparza on drums and Nicolás Jaar on piano/electronics, the group will improvise by day and perform unique sets by night.
After various residencies in New York, Bladerunner will make its debut in Europe at Het HEM and play in the intimate setting of the Dynamic Range Music Bar with its state-of-the-art sound system.
“Bladerunner is a shape-shifting improvising collective, first formed in New York City in 2012. It changes as the interests and approaches of its members change. It changes depending on who is playing, where they are playing, and when. It is excited by the power of this change, the inspiration in a state of flux. Above all, Bladerunner embraces this at a musical level, exploring improvisation in its many forms and genre/genre-less manifestations.”
