Homebase Music Talent Development ProgrammeHomebase PodcastHomebase Connects x Live at the BBQHomebase Get-Together

Het HEM Homebase revolves around creating a home for young creative talent from Zaandam. During a period of at least one and a half year (July 2021 to October 2022), a group of 12 young entrepreneurial creatives from Zaandam, brought together by Ella John, Giovanni Tuinfort and Boga Barbosa, has their own space in Het HEM which they use for get-togethers and masterclasses with more established makers who serve as their role models. Participants are free to set out their own learning trajectory and organise all activities themselves. The group works towards two moments when they share their development and creations with the public:

With Homebase, Het HEM invites young local creatives to contribute to its development as a cultural institution of the 21st century.

Homebase 2022 is supported by

Get to know the team

Boga Barbosa (1992) is a dancer, teacher and choreographer who is nationally active, and regionally known for setting up the Zolarsem Dance Generation for hip-hop dance at the ZS Alliance Foundation in Zaandam. He is one of the core members of Homebase along with Ella John and Giovanni Tuinfort, and leads the dance cypher during Homebase Connects.

Matthew Brandsma (1998) is an artist and event producer from Koog aan de Zaan. Under his stage name Mathiéux he works as a DJ and producer, and has played at events such as Lowlands and WooHah! festival. Together with friends, he founded his own skateboard brand CLCP, and is busy setting up an indoor skate park in Zaanstad. The skate and dance area of Homebase Connects is a small version of what they aim to realise on the Hembrugterrein.

Fabienne D'Zavedo (2002), or Fabs, is a rapper from Zaandam, who already has many talent shows to her name. Her focus is now on how she can present herself as a musician to the outside world, with her own songs which she herself produced and released. The first step is participating in the Music Talent Network programme as one of the six talents.

John-Lewis Cabot (1997) is a musician from Zaandam, who is part of the RnB and hip-hop duo John&Markos. In addition, John-Lewis is signed to DearMusic/BMG as a songwriter. He is one of the six talents who will pitch his songs to music experts for feedback during the Music Talent Network.

Kaytra Hoogwoud (1995) is a fashion designer who grew up partly in Amsterdam and Zaandam. She now lives in Amsterdam again, where she is busy setting up her own clothing brand “Unified” along her work in sales. With her clothing she aims to connect and unite people in a certain way, hence the name. During Homebase Connects, she will present her clothes for the first time on the fashion market.

Homebase started with the rapper and creative entrepreneur Ella John (1997). In Zaanstad she is not only known as a music artist, but also for what she means to young people and the creative community. Since 2020, she has been setting up projects under Ill.CNCPT that are intended to support young people in the creative and social field. Within Homebase she focuses on attracting diverse young creative talent and forging connections among young people and with Het HEM.

Merijn Koomen (2004), better known as Merno, is a versatile creative producer from Assendelft. Whilst studying design, he implements what he learns directly in commissions for posters, logos and lookbooks. Aside from that he engages in photography, film, editing and interviewing. His great inspiration is hip-hop culture. Within Homebase he designed the posters and flyers, among other things.

Priska (1999) is a singer and songwriter from Wormer. Within her music she likes to work in different genres and languages such as Spanish, English and Dutch, and is looking for ways in which she can share and express her opinion in a song. During Homebase Connects she will share her music for the first time with other young musicians and people from the music industry.

Enrique Rivera (1995) is a photo and videographer in Zaandam with extensive skills in video editing. He has a cinematic and raw artistic style and is the creator behind many of the photos and videos taken from Homebase. Enrique never sits still and will also constantly move through the areas during Homebase Connects to record everything.

Ahmed Mazel (1996) calls himself a creative soul who is spiritually oriented. He lives in Oostzaan and makes music under the name Forest11, but is also developing art installations. His role within Homebase is primarily that of the podcast host.

Giovanni Ibrahim Tuinfort (1994) is a multidisciplinary creative with the drive to tell stories. In addition to supervising the various projects within Homebase, he records everything on film for the documentary series he wants to make about the artistic development of four Homebase participants. He is also working on a short film about fear and is developing his clothing brand IM ENIGMA together with his business partner Enrique Rivera.

Cain van der Donk (2004), or Hurrawcain, is an upcoming dance talent from Koog aan de Zaan, renowned for his krumping skills. He has already participated in many dance battles with great success. Since two years he has been part of the Zolarsem Dance Generation in Zaandam, as founded by Boga Barbosa. His ultimate goal is to travel all over the world as a dancer to participate in battles, to judge and eventually to set up his own place for training, events and jam sessions. During Homebase Connects you will find Cain on the dance floor in the skate area.

Homebase Podcast

Homebase connects the worlds of young multidisciplinary makers from Zaanstad with the works and artists of Het HEM. While Het HEM functions as a cultural meeting place for inspiration and creation, the Homebase members bring a new generation of contemporary artists to the building who are not yet familiar with Het HEM. Participants have their own space in Het HEM where they organise their own programmes and meetings. The aim is to support the creative community of Zaanstad by offering young artists a space and the opportunity to express new forms of contemporary art.

The group is working towards two moments when they will share their vision and creations with the public: Homebase Connects on October 29, 2021 and a Homebase festival in the summer of 2022. As a concept creator connected to CNCPT collective, Ella John is contributing to the development of Homebase. Giovanni Tuinfort, Enrique Rivera and Boga Barbosa support Ella in setting up the programme, recruiting participants and creating content for the communication about Homebase. Together they function as the core of Homebase. Follow @hem.homebase on Instagram to see more of Homebase.

Episode 1

Under the credo of “Each One Teach One”, Homebase members organise a series of conversations with makers from the creative industry from whom they want to learn about topics such as social media, PR, project management and personal growth. These conversations are hosted by Ahmed Mazel and Ella John and recorded as live video podcasts which will be released monthly from the end of 2021 via Het HEM's YouTube channel. Homebase members are present during the recordings to follow the live conversation and to talk with the guests afterwards.
