Art is our first language. Even while we are closed for renovations, our programming continues. You will find our art programmes at off-site locations throughout the year and on the digital platform The Couch. The permanent installations in Het HEM will remain open to the public after the renovation.
Our music programme focuses on experimental ways of making, presenting and experiencing sound in the building through listening sessions, live performances and musical artist-in-residence programmes. During renovations, we organise music programmes at off-site locations and on the digital platform The Couch.
Het HEM loves books. During your visit, come lose yourself in the library's rich selection.
The building's industrial design and our experimental art programme bring ambience and meaning to every event.
Situated in a former munitions factory, Het HEM is a new home for contemporary culture.
Homebase Connects is the first public presentation of work by the 12 young local creatives from Homebase and includes an invitation to others to join them. In various spaces of Het HEM they create stages where young musicians, fashion designers, skaters, photographers, video producers and other makers present their work to each other and more established makers as critics. Everything with the aim to develop talent, make new connections and highlight Zaanstad on the cultural map.
Activities include a fashion market with young designers, who sell items directly and share their artistic vision during Q&As and presentations. At the same time, skaters and dancers can enjoy an indoor skate park where DJs in hip-hop and funk alternate and where a dance cypher will take place. In addition, two Network programmes are being set up especially for emerging musical talents and creative female entrepreneurs. Six emerging musical talents get the chance to pitch their music to experienced makers from the music industry for feedback, while female makers can participate in speed dating sessions and a panel about finding your way in the creative industry. Music will be used as a common thread to connect the various components and artistic disciplines.
The event is free to attend, with an RSVP for the Feminine Energy Celebration (17:00 – 21:00) in the Dark Room. For questions, please email homebase@hethem.nl
