Het HEM is a home for contemporary culture, situated in a former munitions factory on the Hembrug site in Zaandam.
If you are a dreamer, come in.
If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar,
A hope-er, a pray-er, a magic bean buyer,
If you’re a pretender, come sit by my fire,
For I have some flax golden tales to spin.
– Shel Silverstein
The name ‘HEM’ stems from the Germanic word ‘haima’, meaning ‘home’. Het HEM is a lively meeting place for contemporary culture. A home for critics and dreamers, the curious and questioners: where art acts as a sounding board to reflect on our current times. Our Living Room is Het HEM’s heart: here you can boost your batteries with unique stories, delicious food and drinks, or a good conversation by the fire.
