Art is our first language. Even while we are closed for renovations, our programming continues. You will find our art programmes at off-site locations throughout the year and on the digital platform The Couch. The permanent installations in Het HEM will remain open to the public after the renovation.
Our music programme focuses on experimental ways of making, presenting and experiencing sound in the building through listening sessions, live performances and musical artist-in-residence programmes. During renovations, we organise music programmes at off-site locations and on the digital platform The Couch.
Het HEM loves books. During your visit, come lose yourself in the library's rich selection.
The building's industrial design and our experimental art programme bring ambience and meaning to every event.
Situated in a former munitions factory, Het HEM is a new home for contemporary culture.
With the launch of the Homebase Music Talent Programme (HMTP), Het HEM helps up-and-coming female music talents in building a support network. Through coaching and master classes with female professionals from different departments within the music industry, participants develop their talent and way of working. They learn how to stay close to themselves, make their own choices and relate to others in an industry mostly run by men.
This programme was set up in 2022 with Homebase initiator and rapper Ella John and is now led by music expert Olga Zegers. The programme is part of the Giving Back programme 'Soundwaves' by global sound experience company Sonos. Through Soundwaves, Sonos supports organisations with a specific social objective, such as promoting inclusivity in the music industry and music education:
"A shocking 2% of music producers and sound engineers are women. We need to include more voices in music, and this starts with supporting emerging artists and talent. At Sonos, we are proud to support Het HEM's Homebase Music Talent Programme," says Deji Olukotun, Director of Policy & Corporate Social Responsibility at Sonos.
Following the needs of last year's participants, this year's HMTP programme presents the HMTP Writers' Camp: a writing workshop under the guidance of Josephine Zwaan, Milka Martins, Dieuwertje Heuvelings and Olga Zegers as mentors.
Below are the talents participating in HMTP Writers' Camp: Saïda, Fabs, Priska, Zulu Green, Adrienne Lint, Richarda, Svbrina, KG (Marisela). Does the Homebase Music Talent Programme sound like something for you? Like to meet like-minded people, get inspired, create, and learn? Or would you like to join the Homebase Music Talent Programme as a mentor from within the music industry? Let us know! We'd love to get to know you via homebase@hethem.nl or a message via our socials.
