Art is our first language. Even while we are closed for renovations, our programming continues. You will find our art programmes at off-site locations throughout the year and on the digital platform The Couch. The permanent installations in Het HEM will remain open to the public after the renovation.
Our music programme focuses on experimental ways of making, presenting and experiencing sound in the building through listening sessions, live performances and musical artist-in-residence programmes. During renovations, we organise music programmes at off-site locations and on the digital platform The Couch.
Het HEM loves books. During your visit, come lose yourself in the library's rich selection.
The building's industrial design and our experimental art programme bring ambience and meaning to every event.
Situated in a former munitions factory, Het HEM is a new home for contemporary culture.

In the first weekend of August, 5 students from Het HEM Summer Research Programme will present their artistic work (called Innovation of Praxis) to the public in a temporary research exhibition in Het HEM.
ArtEZ students from various departments are invited to this event and we also wish to invite students from other schools and universities, such as the University of Amsterdam.
In June, we launched the first 'The HEM Summer Research Programme' – an 8-week research program set up in collaboration with ArtEZ. The program consists of deepening current theory, innovative art practices and experimental research methods related to topics in Chapter 5IVE – the large-scale exhibition developed in dialogue with the architects Samir Bantal and Rem Koolhaas.
During the intensive research program, participants are encouraged to step out of the box and broaden their vision with the story of Samir Bantal & Rem Koolhaas. Participants receive workshops and go on an excursion with artists from the Chapter, such as the landscape architects of De Onkruidenier, and beyond, for example with the designers and artists associated with the Four Sisters project. This program is developed by Carin Rustema (ArtEZ) and curator Rieke Vos.
