Art is our first language. Even while we are closed for renovations, our programming continues. You will find our art programmes at off-site locations throughout the year and on the digital platform The Couch. The permanent installations in Het HEM will remain open to the public after the renovation.
Our music programme focuses on experimental ways of making, presenting and experiencing sound in the building through listening sessions, live performances and musical artist-in-residence programmes. During renovations, we organise music programmes at off-site locations and on the digital platform The Couch.
Het HEM loves books. During your visit, come lose yourself in the library's rich selection.
The building's industrial design and our experimental art programme bring ambience and meaning to every event.
Situated in a former munitions factory, Het HEM is a new home for contemporary culture.
As part of the Close Range residency program, DJ and musician Elias Mazian, together with producer Anton Pieete and audiovisual artists Boris Acket, Lumus Instruments and Toon Rooijmans, will realize the installation 'EINDER', which forms the scenography for the tour around his latest album 'Vrij van Dromen’.
While Elias Mazian's beloved club life was put on hold during Corona, he was able to tour with his ‘Vrij van Dromen’ album. The idea for 'EINDER' arose around a one-off production for the album in the Melkweg, already realized together with Acket. To give the tour an extra dimension, they decided, together with a larger team, to create an experience that visually translates the album. This resulted in 'EINDER': a visual installation that fits exactly with the musing character of the album.
EINDER is a simulator of natural patterns; A gigantic kinetic canvas (14*5m) is central to the work. The canvas is powered by 18 motors and 2 silent fans. Sometimes the canvas appears to be a rigid material, almost a stationary sculpture. Then it waves like wind, shines like the surface of the water.
Spread over two weekends, the team will enter into a dialogue with the installation in a series of concerts in Het HEM by Elias Mazian and, among others, Upsammy and Boris Acket x Lumus. EINDER can also be visited during the day with a location specifically made ambient soundscapes.
EINDER is made possible with the support of the Stimuleringsfonds.
