Art is our first language. Even while we are closed for renovations, our programming continues. You will find our art programmes at off-site locations throughout the year and on the digital platform The Couch. The permanent installations in Het HEM will remain open to the public after the renovation.
Our music programme focuses on experimental ways of making, presenting and experiencing sound in the building through listening sessions, live performances and musical artist-in-residence programmes. During renovations, we organise music programmes at off-site locations and on the digital platform The Couch.
Het HEM loves books. During your visit, come lose yourself in the library's rich selection.
The building's industrial design and our experimental art programme bring ambience and meaning to every event.
Situated in a former munitions factory, Het HEM is a new home for contemporary culture.
Rattling, Trickling, Whispering — an exhibition with Menno Kok, Marilyn Sonneveld, Jan Steenman, and Rosalie Wammes in Het HEM’s Open Studio.
Within the walls of Het HEM, art is not only exhibited, but also produced. Since its opening in June, Het HEM offers space to musicians, designers and artists to further develop their practice. Menno Kok, Marilyn Sonneveld, Jan Steenman, and Rosalie Wammes present new work after having worked in the ateliers of Het HEM.
Menno Kok makes photographs that capture the body in the form of portraits, nudes and stills. Marilyn Sonneveld creates paintings and zines that morph pornographic images to both hold and rouse our gaze. Jan Steenman is a multidisciplinary artist whose living sculptures explore the threshold between the aesthetic and the uncanny. Rosalie Wammes creates small biotopes using light and installations containing several natural elements. Together, the four artists present work that plays with the position of the spectators on bodily and sensorial levels.
The exhibition is freely accessible from January 10 until January 19, 2020, from Thursday to Sunday, noon - midnight.
