Sanctum is the deep blue chapel that was placed between the two floors in Het HEM. It is a work of art made by artist Levi van Veluw.
The work invites contemplation on the relationship between architecture of the spiritual. Why do we assign value to objects, to the tangible, within the immaterial realm of faith? What is the basis of our devotion to altars, relics and icons?
Levi van Veluw was born in the Dutch town of Hoevelaken in 1985 and studied at the ArtEZ Institute of the Arts in Arnhem.
Since graduating in 2007, Levi van Veluw has produced multi-disciplinary works that includes scenografic installations , photographs, films, sculptures, paintings and drawings. This varied body of work has been showcased in many different locations across Europe and the United States, earning him a number of nominations and awards.
On September 26th Levi van Veluw will come to Het HEM to tell a select group of visitors more about his work.
