Support

Like the many pillars that bear the weight of Het HEM’s iconic building, the organisation relies on its Pillars of Support network: a group of individuals who, as a collective, contribute financially to Het HEM and are kept up date with its development into the contemporary cultural platform it aspires to be.

Pillars of Support receive a brass ring that gives them free access to programmes of Het HEM on top of events organised especially for them.

Why would you sign up as a Pillar of Support?

  • Contribute to a unique, new cultural destination with broad reach in your neighbourhood: the vast spaces of Het HEM are a sanctuary for everyone in Zaanstad and Amsterdam, as well as far beyond

  • Get access to the creative adn international community of contemporary makers and thinkers of Het HEM: meet them during events and get to know their practice better

  • Radical transparency and a co-creative mindset: learn with us about how we are developing Het HEM into an innovative and powerful platform that doesn't want to do it alone but with others.

  • We are young and our team is still small. To grow and sustain our position, we depend on the support of individuals.

  • Be part of a movement to do things differently in the art world: at het HEM we put intuitive art experience first. We create and present art experiences that offer kaleidoscopic perspectives on the world we live in and the social issues at hand.

 

As a Pillar of Support, you contribute to Het HEM with an annual donation of €250, €500, €1,000 or €2,500. Each level brings you closer to Het HEM and the core of where our ideas begin and develop. See below for thePillars of Support levels. I want to become a Pillar of Support!

Why now?

Het HEM is in transition. After a successful and eventful initial development phase (2019-2022), Het HEM is preparing to reopen its building after a renovation. Starting in 2024, Het HEM is hybrid with a programme that exists both physically and online on The Couch. The Couch is Het HEM's editorial and artistic platform, where weekly articles, illustrations, podcasts, videos and commissioned audio (visual) and digital artworks are shared.

To take this step, the Pillars of Support are more than necessary. They do not only provide financial support, but are also a sounding board for the team.

Become a Pillar of Support today. Because Het HEM is a cultural ANBI, we do not have to pay taxes on your donation. Your donation is therefore 100%. If you decide to join us for at least five years, you yourself will also receive a tax benefit. Look for more information on this website.

*Intermezzo Pillars of Support programme 2023 *

During Het HEM’s transition phase (November 2023 - September 2024), we organise an Intermezzo Pillars of Support programme in which you can follow the development closely. This programme differs from the series of events we normally organise for the different donation levels - see below*

  • Friday 22 September: Kunstsalon #1
    Pillars of Support who donate €500 or more, get free access to the Kunstsalon: a new programme in which you learn as a group how to look intuitively at art. This programme has been developed in collaboration with the Vrije Academie and takes place at Huis Vasari in Amsterdam. Please note that this event is in Dutch.

  • Friday 29 September: Pillars of Support gathering #3 + performance by Asa Horvitz
    Together with music curator Orpheu de Jong, we dive into the how and why of hybrid programming. Afterwards we will meet composer, theatre director and performance maker Asa Horvitz, known for his immersive art experiences that bring together different dimensions of our existence, and see his new performance GHOST.

  • Thursday 19 October: New HHHorizons day 1
    In the brutalist architecture of the Thomaskerk in Amsterdam Zuid, Het HEM and Belgian Horst present a two-day multidisciplinary programme during ADE 2023 with four new live performances, DJ sessions and a collaboration with online radio platform Ja Ja Ja Nee Nee Nee. New HHHorizons brings together a new generation of creators who think outside the boundaries of their discipline and experiment with connecting electronic music to fashion, dance, visual art and architecture.

Pillars of Support levels: choose an element of Het HEM

*Once Het HEM reopens, you will receive the following benefits per level:

 

Wood €250+

  • Free entrance to all programmes with your Pillars of Support ring;
  • Bring a plus one to Het HEM! You get to share your free entrance perk with them upon presentation of your Pillars of Support ring;
  • Chapter Supporters’ Brunch where you can learn everything about the Chapter and meet the Guest, artists, and Board of Trustees of Het HEM;
  • Be among the firsts to know about our upcoming programme with our PoS newsletters.
 

Concrete €500+

Pillars of Support at this Concrete level receive all the benefits of the previous Wood level, with added invitations:

  • Invitation and free entrance to four special Pillars of Support events each year:
    • Special Pillars of Support reception at the seasonal opening;
    • 2 x Chapter Supporters’ Brunch where you can learn everything about the Chapter and meet the Guest, artists, and Board of Trustees of Het HEM;
    • Music talk or event where will learn more about an artist’s practice or creative process, accompanied by a meet and greet or gift.
  • Involvement in directing funds towards a programming element.
 
 
 

Steel €1,000+

Steel Pillars of Support get even closer to Het HEM, receiving all the perks of the previous Concrete levels with an added annual gathering with the curatorial team of Het HEM and/or artists from the programme

  • Personal meeting with curatorial team, artists or other pioneers in contemporary culture who are involved at Het HEM.
 

Brass €2,500+

By becoming a Brass Pillar of Support and supporting us with €2,500 you get the biggest benefits of all, with all the perks from the Steel level, plus additional benefits including:

  • A piece of Het HEM that you can take home: a Guardian Angel, a sculpture made by the artist Isa van Lier in honour of our supporters;
  • Dinner with someone from our curatorial team to learn about the ideas behind Het HEM’s unique artistic programming;
  • Discount on venue hire at Het HEM.
 

Guardians of Het HEM

Het HEM is a house of grand gestures, but also of small secrets. Some pearls can be found here immediately, others only reveal themselves when you look for them.

Behind this door are the Guardians of Het HEM by artist Isa van Lier. It is an ode to the creative soul of artists, to the energy of the organisation and to the soul of the building with its monumental spaces and intimate corners. The creative flame of Het HEM is kept alive by its Pillars of Support, and that is why they deserve an ode as well. In the temple of Van Lier we thank these guardians of Het HEM for their support and enthusiasm.

Isa van Lier (1996) is an artist from Amsterdam who from 1 October onwards has her studio in the artist studios of Het HEM. In 2020 she graduated from the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. With her colourful sculptures, drawings, paintings and installations, she creates vibrant worlds in which you can completely emerge yourself as a spectator. She invites you to create stories and interpretations with childish fantasy, showing us how strongly we can feel connected to objects, as guardians of our passion and echo of our identity.
